Protect, Use, and Re-disclosure of Federal Tax Information (FTI)
A Webinar-based training for VASFAA members presented by Iron Bridge Resources, LLC - Robert Weinerman, Director of Training
The VASFAA Engagement Committee is excited to offer this training to our members. We hope that you will be able to take advantage of this opportunity and if the timing does not work for your schedule, we encourage you all to register in order to access the recordings.
Webinar Description
The FUTURE Act’s requirement that all applicants and contributors to a FAFSA consent to the transfer of data directly into the FAFSA from the IRS introduced a new type of data stored and used by higher education institutions: Federal Tax Information (FTI). Even though FTI is part of the ISIR, it is not considered FAFSA data and is subject to stricter use, display, and sharing rules than other data financial aid administrators use. In this session, we will review how FTI differs from FAFSA data, with a look at what it can be used for, whom within an institution has access to it, and when and if the institution can disclose FTI to the applicant, other FAFSA contributors, the applicant’s non-contributor parents, and/or entities outside the institution.
