We are pleased to offer our annual tax training with Robert Weinerman in this three-part webinar series offered by CAPFAA, NHASFAA, RIASFAA, and VASFAA (Vermont). You only need to register one time - and your registration will give you access to all three webinars. The agenda below is tentative, and depends in part on when the Department of Education publishes guidance about the 2027-2028 processing cycle. Topics may change or be moved from one scheduled webinar to another.
Webinar 1: What's New and Back to Basics
We will start our training series by looking at the big changes in taxes and FAFSA income data between 2024 and 2025, and 2026-2027 and 2027-2028. This will include a look at the new "combined" FAFSA income fields and the territory tax returns, which will play a larger role in FAFSA processing starting in 2027-2028.
Webinar 2: Verification of FAFSA Tax Items
This will be our V1 verification overview, with a focus on changes to the documentation required and how changes to the tax returns may change verification.
Webinar 3: Late Breaking Changes, Who Must File, and Filing Status.
Finally, we will look at any guidance the Department issued after the second webinar, and cover those tax concepts that financial aid administrators are obligated to understand.
IMPORTANT: We unknowingly scheduled the second webinar for Veteran's Day. If your institution is closed, you will be reflecting on your or your family or friend's service, or otherwise are unavailable, and alternative second webinar will take place on Friday, November 13 from 10 AM to noon.
